Larry Shapiro is a highly skilled technologist and entrepreneur, combining deep technical understanding with proven commercial acumen. He has a BSc in Electronic Engineering, MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Doctorate in Engineering Science from The University of Oxford (in Computer Vision and Robotics). He is also the author of a scientific book, patents and numerous published technical articles.
After a post-doc role at Oxford University, Larry worked as a Research Engineer in Imaging Technology for Sharp Laboratories of Europe, on their world-leading 3DTV project. He then worked as Development Manager & Product Manager for the AIM-listed Active Imaging plc (later sold to Vislink), overseeing development of their groundbreaking Mv-NET networked video camera. During the first dot-com boom in 1999, he co-founded and served as CTO of Clear Money, a high tech start-up that enabled consumers to view, pay and file all their household bills on a single portal (via Web, mobile or Digital TV) – which ultimately became OneVu, a joint venture between CheckFree Corporation (now Fiserv) and BACS (now VocaLink). Larry subsequently co-founded the software house Linksfield Technologies, a Microsoft Gold Partner specialising in the financial services field, where he served first as CEO and then as Chairman, until its successful sale in Feb 2012 to Northdoor plc. Clients included Bank of Ireland, Investec Bank, Stenham Group and Visa Europe.
Larry now consults for a variety of clients in the financial services sector, while pursuing entrepreneurial activities in parallel. He recently served as Interim CTO for Integrated Protection Solutions, a start-up joint venture with Swiss Re developing disruptive new products in the life insurance market. Larry also continues his private research activities into his pet subjects of computer vision and intellectual property.
